Thought I would write a post whilst I’m sitting here on the phone waiting to talk with my Mortgage Company. It’s been 15 minutes now! How long am I willing to wait? Good question and one that applies to all areas of importance in our lives. Firstly we need to determine what is worth waiting for and to come up with that information we need to know what we value. I happen to value my home so a call to the mortgage company that could take me over an hour is worth my time. (message from mortgage company that just beeped into the horrific elevator muzak to which I’m subjected too. They are thanking me for my loyality and are proud of their customer service. I have now been on hold for 19 minutes. Wonder what they consider customer service?)
So what is of value in your life? What is important to you? Do you even know? Most of us haven’t taken the time to sit down and ask ourselves those questions and when we do it can be a very uncomfortable feeling when we are saying something is of value to us and yet our lives are not set up to reflect that.
What is your #1 value? What can’t you live without in your life? For me Freedom is my #1 value, which means that everything I do in life is geared towards living in a way where I experience freedom. Right now at minute 23, I appears that I’m not experiencing the freedom. However when you look at what’s going on with the hold time, I am choosing to write a blog rather than getting annoyed about how long I’m on hold. I can write about it and tie it into something that you have experienced of need to experience and turn it into a learning lesson. The lesson for me today is that I can create my freedom whatever is going in my life.
What do you value and how does that show up in your life?

This morning I was talking with a friend about our need to “fix” things before we have all the information. So what stops us being curious? Is it because we feel like we are being nosy? This morning my husband received a package with a device to help ease his back pain. When he opened the package the device looked different from the picture. He asked me to look at it and to see if I could understand how it worked. I couldn’t and was just about to make the suggestion “how about you look on the internet at the page you ordered it from and see if there are instructions there that fit AND how about you call the company and see if they can help you.” I was about to be in “fix-it” mode. Instead I caught myself and decided to ask a question instead. I asked “what do you need from me right now?” He said “nothing, listen to me complain for a while.” “OK” was my answer and he did for about 90 seconds before he said “maybe I ought to look on the internet and see if I can find the answer there”. My response? “What a good idea honey. I’m off to take a shower.” Can you stay in curious mode and ask questions rather than trying to “fix” the problem or issue?
